Adopt

Welcome a new family member!

We have many feline friends just waiting for a loving home.  Because AnimaLovers is an all-volunteer staffed organization, we must limit adoptions to those who live no more than an hour from the New York Capital District.  If you live outside that area, we recommend searching for animals on Petfinder or Adopt-A-Pet.

How to Adopt

  1. Submit an Adoption Application! Applications may be filled out digitally via our downloadable PDF form or in-person during our Adoption Clinic hours. An approved application is required to be able to meet our cats and kittens so please do this first!
  2. Once submitted, one of our adoption coordinators will review your application and contact you. Please remember this is a volunteer organization and it may take multiple days for your application to be reviewed.
  3. After approval, you can set up a meeting with a specific cat or work with our volunteers to find the right one in our program.

The Senior Cat Benefit

Senior cats come to AnimaLovers for many reasons. Some were cherished family members, surrendered when their beloved owners could no longer care for them. Even more heartbreaking are those rescued after being abandoned on the street. Regardless of why they’re in need of homes, these cats are especially confused and frightened, their worlds flipped upside-down by the loss of the only families they’ve known, separated from the people and, perhaps, other pets they’ve loved for years.

It doesn’t matter how they came to us; what matters is that we at AnimaLovers know senior cats are special cats, as much, if not more, in need of safe, loving, forever families as younger cats. Make no mistake, while our seniors may be scared and overwhelmed when they come to us, they blossom just as quickly as any other cat in the warmth and affection of caring people and loving homes.

Senior cats can bring qualities to a family younger cats might not: a mellow, laid-back attitude; a stable temperament; the gentle love of a good long snuggle; acceptance of less-active people or pets; and a profound gratitude for being rescued and gifted with a new home. People are often hesitant to adopt an older pet for fear of losing it too soon. In truth, it’s impossible to predict how long any cat – or kitten – will live. As with everything in life, adopting a pet of any age requires a leap of faith, a belief that, to borrow from an old quote, it doesn’t matter who you love, or how long you love, but that you love.

To help convince you of the senior benefit, and to help these deserving cats move to the next chapter of their lives, AnimaLovers will waive the adoption fee for any of our treasured seniors. Contact us today to find out how to meet – and bring home – one or more of these very special cats! Email info@animalovers.org for more information!

Kittens

Our kittens are playing and growing strong in our foster homes while they wait for their new families. Since kittens are usually adopted very quickly most of them aren't listed on our website.

The best way to find out about our current and soon-to-be available kittens is to email us at info@animalovers.org.

Barn Cats

We occasionally have cats looking for barn placement. Barn cats are fully vetted and no adoption fee is charged.

To learn more send us an email at info@animalovers.org.

Our Adoptable Cats

Please note that while we strive to keep our adoption listings up to date, sometimes it may look like we don't have lots of cats and kittens available - but we DO!

All of our cats and kittens are in foster homes with our volunteers when they aren't at our PetSmart adoption clinic. So although we may not have them listed below we still have plenty available. If you contact us we can tell you about the age, color and, most important, personalities of the other cats and kittens in our program.
